In Arabic, younbouh translates to a natural spring or fountainhead. Since 1993, Al Younbouh has served as an important source of support and rehabilitation for mentally disabled people in the Kesrwan region of Lebanon. While other similar centers exist in the country, our center is unique, in that we work with adolescents and young adults over the age of 14.
At Al Younbouh, our objective is to lovingly and effectively integrate mentally disabled young adults into society. A critical aspect of the Center is behavior intervention and behavior skills training with young adults, as well as close and supportive communication with their families.
Inclusion is a crucial aspect among people in our center. We strive to integrate all new members in our group as active, productive, independent and self-reliant people with equal rights, by helping them enhance their intellectual, physical and relational capacities to become more autonomous.
Al Younbouh is a member of:
AIRHM, Association Internationale de Recherche scientifique en faveur des personnes Handicapées Mentales (Research Center for Mentally Disabled Individuals)
Inclusion International, global federation of family-based organizations advocating for the human rights of people with intellectual disabilities and their families worldwide
UNAPEI Union Nationale des Associations de Parents et Amis de Personnes Handicapées Mentales (Federation of organizations for parents and friends of mentally disabled persons)
- ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
Al Younbouh relies on private funding and a dedicated cadre of committee members and volunteers to assist our management team with the daily activities of the center:
Executive Committee (Conseil Général)
Responsible for policy-making and general decision making of Al Younbouh
Center Administration (Conseil d’Administration)
Responsible for the administrative, educational and daily life at Al Younbouh through the management of a multi-disciplinary team
The Women’s Committee (Comité de Dames)
Responsible for organizing fundraising activities. Volunteers prepare pastries for young adults to decorate, host brunches, and run sales fairs. This committee also sponsors our annual event “Walk With Al Younbouh” program in which also participate other members and committees.
Youth Committee (Comité de Jeunes)
Responsible for extracurricular activities to help develop young adults' personalities and their integration into society. This committee offers a circle of friends on whom young adults can rely.
Annual activities of the Youth Committee include a Halloween costume party, Dinner Out, Religious Recital, Parents Picnic, and a two-week Summer Camp (colonie).
Our Youth Committee does not seek financial remuneration. Socializing and making friends keeps smiles on the faces of Al Younbouh young adults.
- SOCIAL OFFICE
Our social office was founded with the aim to support mentally handicapped adults and their families, helping them overcome their problems and ensure social, emotional and intellectual development of our members. Our work is based on:
Social follow-up with our members: help them develop their social and mental capacities
Social intervention with families: sensibility and responsibility of parents towards the needs and rights of mentally disabled adolescents
Building awareness in our society: motivate people to knowing mentally disabled individuals, believing in their capacities and helping them integrate into society.
We strive to create this awareness by organizing school visits to the center. Around 200 students annually visit our center, spending a day with our members.
