About Al Younbouh
|
How We Work |
Al Younbouh Rehabilitation Center works to improve the quality of life of its mentally disabled adults in three main ways:
With the Student
Al Younbouh aims to develop an individualized program that is designed to meet the particular individual needs and developmental challenges of each of the students. Crafting and executing this plan is effective thanks largely to the dedicated involvement of many different people, including the multidisciplinary team, the family, and most importantly the student, himself or herself.
This individualized program has 3 primary elements: Educational, Therapeutic, and Social.
A student at Al Younbouh benefits directly from considerable staff training, which takes into account 3 dimensions, educational, therapeutic, and social, in order to stimulate and develop the student's intellectual, manual, behavioral and cognitive capacities.
Al Younbouh builds its individualized program for each student through extensive parent-interviews, internal discussion, and resident-psychological expertise, in order to help the student develop his or her self-confidence, self-respect and self-esteem.
The end goal, first and foremost, is to empower the student to become an autonomous individual capable of taking full command of his or her life.
With the Family
Al Younbouh understands that the societal-integration of its students will not be successful without the full collaborative efforts of, and synergistic engagement with, the student's whole family.
Therefore, Al Younbouh specifically works to:
- Support and counsel the family, enabling and empowering it to find the balance that is often upset due to the presence of a child with a mental disability
- Inform the family, seeking to make it capable of assessing and aiding the development of their child
- Reduce the family's daily stress resulting from care of a mentally-disabled child, by transferring several key responsibilities of their child's cognitive and functional development to trained professionals
- Help the family become an active partner and nurturer in the life of their child
- Convince the family to keep their child in the family home, whenever possible
With Society
Al Younbouh works actively to disseminate a positive image of those who live with disabilities, seeking to change perspectives and attitudes towards mentally-disabled individuals within the broader Lebanese community. This undertaking seeks to inform and educate the society through various outreach activities, such as:
- Forging relationships with local schools. (open day)
- Organizing outings and activities within the community, with themes such as educational, sporting, and cultural and other activities in social and public environments.
- Participating in conferences, workshops and media programs aimed at raising awareness of mental disability.
Al Younbouh seeks to encourage the community to avoid the stigmatization of mentally-disabled adults and to change the misconceptions resulting from that stigmatization. |
